Vintage Japanese Tsutsugaki indigo-dyed textile
$120.00Price
Vintage indigo-dyed cotton textile with a bold Tsutsugaki design.
Tsutsugaki is a traditional Japanese resist-dyeing technique in which rice paste is applied freehand through a tube before the cloth is dyed. The paste-covered areas resist the indigo dye, leaving the design visible against the deep blue ground.
The textile features a large traditional floral motif with flowing decorative forms. Signs of age, including holes, wear, and hand-stitched repairs, remain visible.
