This is a katazome indigo-dyed cotton fragment. The faded colors are very beautiful. This one has been die dyed with a regular indigo dye and then dyed in an additional step with a dark- pink color.
Katazome is a Japanese technique of stencil resist dyeing that involves drawing rice-paste designs on cloth, dyeing the cloth, and then washing off the paste.
