This is an old hand-weaved basket. It has a rope attached so that it can be carried on the back. It was probably used to carry grain or other items for farm work.
The material used rice straws, but in some places, ripped pieces of cotton kimono have been woven into the basket.
It can also be used as a flower vase as shown in the image.
