Japanese vintage Tsutsugaki ramie textile
Japanese vintage ramie textile originally part of a kimono, featuring a faded light blue ground with flowing water and floral patterns, believed to have been created using the Tsutsugaki resist-dyeing technique.
Tsutsugaki is a traditional Japanese dyeing method in which rice paste is applied by hand through a cone-shaped tube to create patterns before dyeing.
Several sections of fabric have been joined together by hand stitching, with visible repairs and patches added over time. Small holes, stains, and fading remain throughout the surface, reflecting its long history of use.
The lightweight ramie fabric has a naturally textured surface. The hand-drawn patterns, faded colors, and traces of repair give this textile a distinctive character.
