Hand-twisted from strips of worn cloth and straw rope, this long braided rope was used for hanging laundry outdoors in the Tohoku region of Japan. Indigo-dyed cotton, striped fabrics, and small colorful fragments were combined with straw cord, creating a strong and practical rope for everyday use.
　
The varied materials, colors, and textures reflect a resourceful approach to reusing available materials. Signs of wear, fading, and loose fibers remain throughout, preserving the character of an object made for daily work.
