Japanese Vintage Patchwork Komebukuro Rice Bag

$80.00Price

Vintage Japanese Komebukuro, traditionally used for carrying and storing rice.

Made from several striped cotton fabrics in dark brown, black, and muted grey tones. The narrow stripes vary subtly from one section to another, showing how different pieces of cloth were joined together and reused.

The bag is entirely hand sewn, and the combination of different striped fabrics gives each section a distinct appearance.

The opening is gathered with a dark cord, creating a rounded sculptural form when the bag is closed. A small handwritten cloth label remains attached near the opening, preserving a trace of its original ownership and use.

Its restrained striped pattern and softly aged fabric make it beautiful not only as a Komebukuro but also as a hanging textile object.
