This textile is an example of traditional Japanese indigo shibori, featuring a bold geometric pattern known as sekka shibori, or “snowflake tie-dye.” The design was created by folding the cloth, clamping it between wooden boards, and immersing it in indigo dye, resulting in repeating star-like motifs.

The vivid contrast between deep blue and pure white is striking, and such patterns were commonly used for yukata and other garments in everyday life. Visible wear, small holes, and traces of mending show that this cloth was once actively used, carrying with it both beauty and history.
