Japanese Vintage Indigo Sashiko Fragment

Japanese vintage indigo-dyed Katazome cotton textile, layered and secured with hand-stitched sashiko.

Sharp geometric forms and fine horizontal lines alternate across the indigo and white surface. Pieces with different sections and orientations of the original pattern have been joined together, creating subtle variations within the repeated design.

Hand-stitched sashiko runs vertically and horizontally across the textile, strengthening the layered cloth. Additional pieces were placed over worn areas as repairs, preserving traces of its long use in everyday life. Faded indigo, irregular stitches, and overlapping sections have gradually formed the distinctive character of this piece.

It can be displayed on a wall as a textile or used as a small mat or display cloth.
