This antique textile features a katazome (stencil resist-dyed) pattern of floral arabesques, where rounded flowers are intertwined with graceful vine scrolls. The design, known as hanakarakusa in Japan, symbolizes vitality and the unbroken continuity of life.

Woven from a blend of silk and cotton and dyed in natural indigo, the fabric has a soft sheen and subtle irregularities that reveal its handwoven origin. With gentle fading and time-worn texture, it reflects the quiet beauty of Japanese craftsmanship.

Originally part of a kimono or futon cover, this fragment carries the warmth and history of everyday use.
