Japanese vintage indigo katazome cotton textile.

Vintage Japanese cotton textile featuring large chrysanthemum motifs and flowing arabesque patterns, created using the traditional katazome stencil dyeing technique.

The design features large, rounded chrysanthemum flowers with multiple layers of petals, arranged in a repeating pattern. Curving vines and finely outlined leaves connect the flowers, creating a continuous composition across the fabric.

In Japanese culture, chrysanthemums have long symbolized longevity and good fortune and are commonly used in traditional textile designs.

The contrast between the indigo background and the undyed white patterns emphasizes the bold floral shapes and delicate lines. Variations in the indigo tones and areas of faded color reveal the effects of age and repeated use. Some overlapping lines and irregularities in the dyeing add to the character of the textile.

The cotton fabric has softened over time, with visible wear, slight fraying along the edges, and natural fading. The large-scale floral design and aged indigo surface retain the distinctive character of this vintage textile.
