Japanese vintage indigo katazome cotton textile.

Vintage Japanese cotton textile featuring chrysanthemum motifs and flowing arabesque patterns, created using the traditional katazome stencil dyeing technique.

The design features large chrysanthemum flowers arranged in a repeating pattern, surrounded by curling vines, small floral details, and finely dotted lines. Chrysanthemums have long been associated with longevity and good fortune in Japanese culture. Subtle reddish-brown accents highlight the petals, adding depth and contrast to the indigo and white composition.

The intricate dotted patterns and delicate curves demonstrate the precision of traditional stencil dyeing. Countless small white dots cover the indigo background, creating a richly detailed surface.

Slight variations in the dye and gentle fading reveal the character of the traditional dyeing process.

The cotton fabric has softened with age, showing natural wear, subtle fading, and slight fraying along the edges. These details preserve the texture and character of this vintage textile.
