Japanese vintage indigo katazome cotton textile.

Vintage Japanese cotton textile featuring chrysanthemum motifs and delicate flowing arabesque patterns, created using the traditional katazome stencil dyeing technique.

The design combines densely layered chrysanthemum flowers with smaller, radiating chrysanthemum patterns. In Japanese culture, chrysanthemums symbolize longevity and are traditionally associated with good fortune. Fine dotted lines form curling vines and decorative details, while countless small white dots cover the indigo background, creating a balanced and intricate repeating composition.

The fine lines and small dotted elements demonstrate the precision of traditional Japanese stencil dyeing. The contrast between the deep indigo and the undyed areas has softened with age, revealing subtle variations in color and texture.

The cotton fabric has developed a soft, worn surface through years of use. A small tear along one edge, slight fraying, and natural fading remain visible, reflecting the textile's age and history.
