Japanese vintage cotton Katazome fragmen
Japanese vintage indigo-dyed cotton fragment decorated with phoenixes and floral motifs in Katazome.
The phoenix is a mythical bird traditionally associated with peace, prosperity, and auspicious occasions in Japan. Each bird is arranged within a bold circular composition, surrounded by finely rendered floral patterns. The detailed feathers and repeated lines reveal the careful craftsmanship of the hand-cut stencil used in the dyeing process.
The contrast between the deep, softly aged indigo and the undyed natural cotton creates a strong yet calm visual rhythm. Subtle fading, wear, and irregularities developed over time add depth to the surface and reflect the long history of the cloth.
The edges remain unfinished. Suitable for framing, display, use as a small textile mat, or as material for a creative project.
