Japanese vintage cotton katazome textile with safflower dye.

The cloth is dyed in a soft red tone, with patterns created through stencil resist techniques. Areas of undyed fabric form repeating motifs, slightly blurred at the edges from use and washing.

Safflower, known as beni in Japan, was traditionally used to produce red hues. The color has softened over time, showing uneven fading and subtle shifts across the surface.

The fabric is thin and light, with a texture shaped through use in daily life. A central seam runs through the cloth, indicating it was constructed from joined pieces.
