Japanese Vintage Patchwork Komebukuro Rice Bag
Vintage Japanese Komebukuro, traditionally used as a bag for carrying or storing rice.
Made from a combination of indigo-dyed cotton fabrics, the bag is assembled from several different textiles in deep shades of blue. Small sections of patterned indigo fabric appear among the darker cloth, creating a quiet contrast.
The surface shows many traces of use and repair, including hand stitching, patches, worn areas, and irregular seams. Rather than being made from a single piece of cloth, different fragments were carefully joined and reused, reflecting the practical spirit of Boro textiles.
The opening is gathered with cords, giving the bag its distinctive rounded form. An old handwritten cloth label also remains attached to the exterior, adding another trace of its history.
Beautiful as a textile object on its own, it can also be displayed hanging or placed as a sculptural piece.
