Old Japanese cloth once used as a furoshiki wrapping cloth.
Dyed in indigo and brown using the tsutsugaki resist-dyeing technique, where rice paste is applied through a cone-shaped tube to draw freehand patterns before dyeing.
Such furoshiki were used for wrapping and carrying goods, as well as on ceremonial occasions such as weddings and gift exchanges. The wear and small holes show its long history of practical use, while the strong geometric composition and bold lettering give it a strikingly modern appeal.
Today, it can also be enjoyed as a wall-hanging textile, where the graphic design and historical character resonate beautifully in a contemporary interior.
