This is a rare Zanshi-ori Boro rug, handwoven over 100 years ago in the Tohoku region of Japan.
Zanshi-ori (残糸織り) is a traditional Japanese weaving technique that makes use of leftover or mismatched threads—typically remnants from previous weaving projects. These otherwise discarded threads are repurposed to create unique, one-of-a-kind textiles with irregular colors and textures.
Unlike Sakiori, which uses torn fabric strips, Zanshi-ori uses leftover threads (zanshi = “leftover thread,” ori = “weaving”), producing a finer and more varied woven surface.
This rug is thick, soft, and durable—ideal for floor use or as a decorative textile. It has been washed many times over the years, giving it a relaxed and gentle texture.
Material: 100% Cotton
Dimensions: 140 cm × 69 cm (55 in × 27 in)
Please note: Due to its age and use, the textile displays natural fading and wear, which enhance its character and authenticity.
