This is a handwoven Sakiori rug made over 100 years ago in Japan’s Tohoku region. Sakiori is a traditional Japanese textile art that involves upcycling old garments—often kimono—by tearing the fabric into narrow strips and weaving them into new, durable cloth.
The term “Sakiori” combines the words saku (to tear) and ori (to weave), describing the process by which worn textiles were given new life.
Woven entirely from cotton, this rug has been washed and softened over time, resulting in a beautifully aged texture. It is thick and sturdy, making it ideal for use as a floor rug or as a decorative textile accent.
Material: 100% Cotton
Dimensions: 160 cm × 69 cm (62 in × 27 in)
Please note: This piece shows natural signs of use and wear consistent with its age, contributing to its authentic charm.
