This is a four-panel furoshiki made of handwoven fabric, stencil dyed with indigo,  A furoshiki is used for wrapping things, usually for transport.

The fabric is homespun, handwoven, and four narrow panels have been joined to make one furoshiki. It is a heavier fabric, thick and quite soft. There are a number of tiny holes and areas of thinning, but it is in great condition for the age.

This one printed Noshi, which means good luck, and an ornament attached to gifts and presents offered on festive occasions in Japan.
