These are old Japanese indigo-dyed cotton tabi shoes.
 
Tabi shoes are a product that has been worn in Japan from ancient times to the present day. In the old days, people wore tabi like socks and then put on straw sandals or wore as shoes outside.
 
These tabi are in dead stock condition. They were probably made and stored in the north of Japan between 80 and 100 years ago.
 
The indigo-dyed body is decorated with beautiful stitch embroidery. This may be for reinforcement and/or decoration.
