This is a Katazome indigo-dyed cotton 4-paneled textile. This one hand painted or hand stenciled crane patterns on katazometextiles. This combination of technique and pattern is very rare.

 

Katazome is a Japanese method of indigo dyeing fabrics using a resist paste applied through a stencil, typically a rice flour mixture applied with a brush or a tool such as a palette knife.

 

Four length were sew togeter by hand Sashiko stitching, some holes were also repaired with hand Sashiko stitching.
