This is an old hand-woven and hand-knitted rain cape, called Mino. Its original use was to be carried on the back to shelter from the rain during farming.

This one was made by a farmer in Miyagi Prefecture and is woven with rice straws and the bark of a grape tree. It is sometimes displayed in warehouses where rice is harvested for decorative purposes.

The core, which requires some strength, is made of vinyl string. This one was probably made about 50 to 70 years ago.

※Please note that the tips of the straw may be slightly broken during shipping, but the body itself is very sturdy.
