This is a traditional Japanese back basket, meticulously hand-woven using rice straw.  
It features a sturdy rope harness that allowed it to be carried on the back — likely used for transporting grain or other farm goods.
　
The craftsmanship reflects regional ingenuity; in some areas, strips of repurposed cotton kimono fabric have been skillfully woven into the basket, enhancing both strength and texture.
　
Though originally utilitarian, the basket now holds strong aesthetic value.  
It can be beautifully repurposed as a rustic flower vessel or an interior accent, as shown in the image.

A personal name and a family crest have been written on the basket in newer ink.
