A piece of old Japanese cloth.
This ramie textile is woven with stripes, made from a mix of thin and slightly thicker threads. The stripes are not perfectly uniform, showing the natural variation of handwork. When held to the light, the striped pattern becomes more pronounced, and small distortions created by uneven thread tension give the cloth a quiet, irregular character.
The indigo tones shift along the stripes, with darker and lighter lines running through the fabric. The fibers have softened with age, and the edges show small frays. The surface has the dry, crisp texture typical of old ramie, with occasional knots felt along the threads.
When hung, the stripes fall vertically and the transparency changes with the light. Suitable as a wall piece, layered cloth, or material for future work. A simple striped ramie cloth that retains the qualities of aged Japanese fabric.
