A piece of old Japanese cloth.
This textile is made from silk fragments that were once used directly as parts of a kimono. Different types of cloth—indigo kasuri, small-pattern printed silk, plain deep-blue silk, and reddish-toned silk—are hand-stitched together.
Each fragment carries traces of long use: worn threads, faded areas, and small repair stitches left untouched. The irregular edges and slight distortions show how the cloth was repeatedly altered or mended within the household. The seams use threads of varying thickness, and the uneven stitches quietly reflect the motion of the maker’s hands rather than machine precision.
The front and back present completely different expressions, changing further with light and direction. It works well as a small wall piece, a table accent, or material for future projects. A textile that allows the aged character of old Japanese cloth to be felt directly.
