This antique panel is made from handwoven cotton, originally used in daily life and later reinforced with a large square patch. The surface bears subtle stains and discoloration from decades of use, which now create a natural gradient across the cloth. Frayed edges and visible seams further emphasize its age and authenticity.

Dating from the early 20th century, it reflects the Japanese tradition of reuse and repair, where textiles were never discarded but carefully mended for continued use. The simplicity of its plain weave, combined with the quiet beauty of wear and patchwork, makes it not only a utilitarian remnant but also an evocative piece of textile art.

Though showing visible aging, the cloth remains stable and suitable for display. It can be appreciated as a wall hanging, noren-style partition, or as part of a textile collection, offering a glimpse into the restrained and understated aesthetics of Japanese material culture.
