This is a small fragment of hand-woven cotton cloth dyed with safflower.
It was probably originally used as the lining of a kimono, but was continually repaired by applying fabric and Sashiko stitching as it was used repeatedly.
Some place were patched some of other beautiful small fabrics.
All hand sewing by hand Sashiko stitching with indigo-dyed and non-dyed cotton threads.
