This tray was made by pasting together small pieces of recycled Washi rice paper.

 

It was used in Nagano Prefecture about 100 years ago. Paper was precious in Japan then, so various types of paper were glued together and reworked into a single sheet.

 

Old farmers probably used this tray to store cocoons of silkworms.

 

Please note that it will be folded for shipping.
