This textile was probably used in the past as a cover for futons.
It is a beautiful shade of indigo and has been woven using a traditional Japanese technique called kasuri.
Kasuri weaving is a traditional Japanese technique in which the threads are dyed before weaving to create distinctive, blurred patterns. It is a form of ikat weaving known for its intricate designs and is often used for kimonos and household textiles. The process requires skill in aligning dyed threads to create unique, textured patterns.
Some holes were repaired with Sashiko stitching in old times.
