This is an indigo-dyed soft and thick Kotatsu cover indigo rug. It was probably made and used more than 100 years ago.
A kotatsu is a traditional Japanese heating device used during the colder months, typically in fall and winter. It consists of a low wooden table frame covered by a futon (a thick quilt) or a heavy blanket, with a heat source underneath. The heat source is traditionally a charcoal brazier.
All hand sewing and many holes are repaired by sashiko stitching with a lot of beautiful textiles.
It repeated washing and mending to become very soft.
You can use a rug or hang it as textile art.
