This is a vintage indigo-dyed cotton textile, created using a traditional Japanese technique called shibori tie-dyeing.

Shibori is an intricate dyeing method that involves folding, twisting, or binding the fabric before dyeing. These manipulations resist the dye, resulting in beautiful contrasts of deep indigo and undyed areas.

This piece also features hand-stitched sashiko repairs, adding character and reinforcing its history.
