This patchwork textile is composed of antique indigo-dyed cottons, showcasing traditional Japanese stencil-dyeing techniques (katazome). Three panels feature the iconic asanoha (hemp leaf) motif—symbolizing vitality and growth—while the fourth panel displays playful crests and patterns, possibly gourds and fans.

Each piece bears the gentle fading, wear, and repairs accumulated over decades of use. Hand-stitched together, the composition balances repetition and irregularity, reflecting the Japanese aesthetic of harmony within imperfection.

Compact yet expressive, this work embodies the spirit of boro: frugality, function, and the quiet elegance of everyday fabric made to endure.
