"Zokin" refers to a traditional Japanese cleaning cloth made from small pieces of fabric scraps or old cloth. These pieces are layered, stitched together, and then used for cleaning purposes, such as wiping surfaces or floors.
The process of layering and stitching makes the cloth durable and reusable, and it's often considered a sustainable way to repurpose old fabric into something useful for household chores. This one was made of indigo-dyed cotton fabrics.
This one used mainly indigo-dyed Kasuri ikat textiles. "Kasuri" is a traditional Japanese textile dyeing technique that results in a distinctive pattern characterized by blurred or feathered edges. The term "Kasuri" can refer to both the technique and the finished textile. Kasuri involves resist dyeing, where parts of the yarn are tightly bound before dyeing to create a pattern. The bound areas resist the dye, creating the characteristic blurred or mottled design.
