This is a Boro rug made over 100 years ago. It was found in the northern west of Japan.
It has about 2 or 3 layers of indigo-dyed cotton fragments of all kinds sewn on top of each other.
Everything is embroidered by hand stitching called Sashiko, The threads used cotton and hemp.
It is thick and just right for use as a rug. It has been washed many times so it has a soft texture.
